Time management strategies are what you need if you’re trying to run a business, and feel like you have no time to actually work on the business, and not just in it!

In this video we share 8 time sucks that if you can you can avoid, will get you so much more time back! ⏳🙌

We want to get some things off our chest in this video, things that other people preach are good to do, but that we think are just a big waste of time…

In fact we think a lot of small businesses are doing a lot of time wasting stuff, and in fact – when you join ATOMIC the first thing we get you to do, is work out what you’re currently spending time on that isn’t growing your business… and we tell you to stop it… so you can work on stuff that DOES grow your business!

Now if you feel like you don’t have time to work ON your business, because you’re so busy doing paid for client work, then check out this blog which covers the 3 things you need to do to get over that.

But here’s some pointless time sucks that grind our gears…

1. Scheduling content on platforms we don’t want to be on

One phrase we HATE is ‘Omnipresent marketing’, and the idea that we have to be present everywhere. Because what we end up doing is creating a ton of stuff that isn’t all that great, because we’re spread ourselves so thin and it results in NO BUSINESS.

90:10 Rule for the win… check out this blog and stop scheduling crap stuff for the sake of being present!

2. Writing a Book

We literally have two books so we are two huge hypocrites right now! But here’s our hang up… a ton of people are writing a book. Not many people are PUBLISHING a book.

If you’re going to write one, write one… it shouldn’t take years.

Fun fact… we got half way through writing one book, changed our mind as to what it should be about after a year of writing it and had to start over… huge waste of time 😭

Our next one was done and dusted in a few months 💪

A book probably isn’t going to fix your business problems, or get you more speaking gigs or even increase your credibility in a world where anyone can write a book, so if you’re going to write one, write one, publish it and don’t let it be a time suck.

3. Leaving the office to go to meetings

We have things like Skype and Zoom, and FaceTime, and even Facebook and Instagram have Video Calls, and GoToMeeting and Appear.in… travelling to business meetings 99% of the time isn’t needed… especially if you’re busy.

Coffee shops are nicer than looking into a webcam yes, but don’t make it the norm – make it a nice treat!

4. Creating a course before selling it

So many courses don’t sell very well… but there is literally no need in creating something these days unless you’re confident it will sell. So instead try selling it first, or at least gauge interest.

(ATOMIC members – check out the training with Thinkific on How to Validate a Course Idea… before you spend days if not weeks, if not months building it.)

5. Building a funnel before selling 1 to 1

We have been SUPER GUILTY of this one, until recently. All the online marketers talk about the beauty of funnels and how easy they are, but if you haven’t sold what you’re selling on a 1 to 1 basis before, then a lot of it is guesswork WHICH results in a ton of editing OR a failed funnel, both of which are a time waste.

You can’t expect to sell one to many, if you can’t sell it 1 to 1 consistently.

Instead try selling your product/service on a call or in a meeting, find out the objections, the questions that get asked, what makes them eventually say YES… and use that to build an effective sales process. There’s a blog about sales calls here.

6. Launching a Facebook Live interview show

There are just SOOOO many of these with terrible view counts, so if you’re going to do it… make it different, otherwise it’s a big time waster.

Make sure you create your content stamp (those of you who have read book two will get that)… so you’re not just another Facebook Live Show in a sea of Facebook Live shows.

7. Creating Content with no sales strategy

Because you think you shouldn’t try to sell because you should be giving a ton of value for free, and never asking for anything in return because sales are bad 😩

And breathe…

Basically, if you’re blogging or creating videos or podcasts with no idea of how that results in sales, then you’re wasting a ton of time. Instead check out this blog, on how to turn free content into leads and sales.

8. Saying Happy Birthday to strangers on LinkedIn

Because… just… why? 🤣

OK… maybe it wasn’t too controversial… but I know some of you really like those coffee meetings ☕️
