How Tammy got 4 new clients with NO self promotion

We first met Tammy when we were on the hunt for a new personal assistant. She had a nice smiley profile photo, her website said all the right things and she had a really easy to use call and book system on her website so we could book in a call with her the very next day.

Tammy came prepared for the meeting and she seemed really nice so the very next day we hired her on a two month trial.

But what happened next was the real key to her success. She blew us away. She was great at her job. She was a dream to work with. She was fixing problems before we even knew there was a problem in the first place. She was reliable, proactive, learnt really fast.

So what did we do? We told all our friends about her. We spread the word for her. As the cliche goes, the best form of advertising is word of mouth. Our friends trust us. And so when we say Tammy is awesome they want some of that action for themselves.

We’ve only known Tammy for three months but already she’s working with four other clients because we’ve recommended her to them. That’s four extra clients on top of us without having to spend any extra time promoting herself, running ads, doing social media. Just purely great word of mouth referrals.

Now, here’s the kicker. How much time are you actually focusing on making sure that your current clients are happy versus trying to get new clients?

Now, we’re not saying that you should be burying yourself in client work and just never doing any promotion. We are big believers that you shouldn’t just rely on referrals to grow your business because they are not fully in your control. So if you want to grow as fast as possible then you should try to be proactive with sales.

However, there’s definitely something to be said about making sure that you’re spending time giving your clients a great experience in the hope that they refer you to their friends and people that they know.

Another big reason that you should focus on your customer experience is because it allows you to turn smaller clients into bigger clients. How many of you are watching this video right now and have smaller clients that are just ticking over?

And how many of you are wanting these bigger clients you dream of having these bigger clients? Well, what if you literally helped out your current smaller clients so much. That they simply became those bigger clients that you dreaming after.

How Michelle turned us into a BIGGER client

That’s exactly what happened to us and another member of our team Michelle. We hired her for a small one-off job initially. But then she kept on over-delivering and eventually we hired her for a much bigger role on the team and at a bigger retainer.

You see customer experience is everything. Your reputation, your sales, your confidence in yourself is all built on customer satisfaction.

Just remember that if you can support, nurture, keep in touch with and sell to your current clients you can turn to smaller clients into bigger clients rather than just keep them ticking over.

Think about how you’re staying in touch with your customers so you always remain top of mind when they are ready to invest more. Think about if you can send them helpful information to grow things that they might be interested in or if you can make any introductions that will be useful to them.

Think about what else they struggle with. What you know that they struggle with that you can help them overcome by upselling something extra to them. And remember you don’t always have to do that extra work yourself. You can bring freelancers or additional experts on to your team so you can provide more services to your client.

This is a huge opportunity that is missed by most people for extra sales, and extra income. Often a simple monthly or quarterly check-in meeting with your client to see how you can support them more can be the best way to get new clients 🙌
