Email marketing… the old way

The old way of doing email marketing is no good. In fact, we think that email marketing has been massively misunderstood for absolutely years guys.

The first thing you’ve got to remember is that email marketing is not about building a massive list and then emailing them until they buy, die, or unsubscribe. Instead of just emailing your list whenever you want make a sale, you should be emailing your lists so that the moment someone’s ready to buy from you, you’re there and they know what to do.

The ‘welcome campaign’

First step to a successful email marketing strategy is to make sure you have a welcome campaign, a sequence of emails designed to take your brand new subscribers and say, “Hey guys!” to welcome them into your business. We’ve got one, we call it the ‘getting to know you sequence’ because it’s where people get to know us, and we get to know them.

It’s like when you go to a drinks reception. There’s loads of people standing around in little groups talking about things and you join one of those groups, but you’ve got no idea what they’re talking about, the story, or any of the characters involved, so you feel like an outsider and it’s hard to understand what’s happening.

And getting to know your sequence allows you to make sure no new subscriber on your list ever feels like that, and that they always feel connected and more involved.

Now the getting to know you sequence will also make sure that you build credibility and that your subscribers trust you and feel like they’ve got a relationship with you. One great way to do this is to make sure you include a photograph of yourself. The most dashing photograph you can possibly find 😝

Email more often

This might give you a ‘poof’ moment… people will forget who you are if you don’t keep in touch with them.

And you can’t build deep relationships with people who you don’t hear from very often.

We email our list every single day, 365 days of the year with tips, tricks, ideas, insight, motivation, hope, and other things of value.

Let’s face it, people are on your list because they’ve got a problem and they want your advice.

The more often you email them, the more trust you can build with them, and the more you can help them.

And you can easily build stories and lessons and sales pitches, all into one email.

Structured sales email campaigns

A good email marketing strategy needs structured sales email campaigns, single emails do not work. Even if you’re getting an amazing 40% open rate on your emails, that means 60% of your subscribers  are never seeing your sales messages. Ouch.

If you’re going to sell something, you need to take somebody through a structured sales conversation through email. Like our customer Sheila.

Sheila had never sold anything through email before. It always needed a long sales conversation. But by following this framework, she was able to sell a whole bunch of her mastermind spaces in just a couple of days, just by using email.

Try to use multiple emails that are strung together into logical sales conversations that build up on all of the different emotional hot buttons, like fear of missing out, excitement, urgency, objection handling, and a whole bunch of other stuff like that.

The reengagement campaign

Now none of those other ideas and tips actually do anything at all, unless you’ve got an amazing reengagement campaign.

You see the people who are not opening your emails are actually damaging your ability to say, “Hey guys!” to the people who do want to receive those emails. It’s harming your delivery because Gmail and all the others, they’re watching you.

You need a specific campaign whose only job is to shake and wake up the people who started drifting off to sleep and identify those who you cannot reengage.

So you need to figure out what does disengaged look like in your business, based on how often you email people. And we then drop them into a campaign that we call the L-O-L revival campaign.

It’s three phases designed to take people through three emotional states to get them to wake back up.

And then at the end of the campaign, you’ve identified who you have reengaged, you can start making more offers to those people and building a relationship with them. Then the people who you’ve not reengaged, well, you can mark them for deletion or certainly not email them anymore, so they’re not clogging up your system.

So guys, that’s four awesome elements that you need to have in your email marketing, so you can make more sales with your emails.
