We’ve drafted in an old friend Rebecca Ward to tell you all about the Clubhouse app that you might’ve been hearing about.

This, isn’t going to be one of those, “You must be on Clubhouse because it’s the best thing ever since sliced bread!” type of video.

No, we’re going to look at what Clubhouse does, its current features and show you how to use it in a short tutorial.

Now, here’s Rebecca with the lowdown on this new app! 👇

We’ve drafted in an old friend Rebecca Ward to tell you all about the Clubhouse app that you might’ve been hearing about.

This, isn’t going to be one of those, “You must be on Clubhouse because it’s the best thing ever since sliced bread!” type of video.

No, we’re going to look at what Clubhouse does. We’re going to look at its current features and show you how to use it in a short tutorial.

Now, here’s Rebecca with the lowdown on this new app…

What is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is a social networking platform that’s audio only, which is amazing while we’re at home in our pyjamas 😂 There’s a range of different rooms that you can go in depending on whether you want to have a business chat or a chilled space or talk about a specific interest or hobby that you have.

And if there’s nothing that takes your fancy then you just start your own room and conversation.

The basics

Let me tell you about the absolute basics of Clubhouse.

Currently they’re beta testing so it’s only available on iPhone. Providing you have access to one, you can download the app, create a username and then you get invited by one of your contacts.

You’ll probably have seen lots of posts on Facebook, begging for spare invites then when you get onto the platform you’ll be able to bring one of your contacts in.

Invites are released sparingly and the more time you engage and spend time on the app the more invites you will get. And eventually when the app has been running for a bit longer and they’ve made sure that they’ve brought in all the updates that they want and that the users want, hopefully it should be available to Android users and not by invite only.

The advantages and disadvantages

Let me go through the advantages and disadvantages of this new social platform.

The advantages are that there’s no tech required. Earbuds are optional and you don’t need your makeup bag! Anyone can start a room and anyone can reach a large audience, if you’re an entrepreneur or a business you can find a space as an expert in your field but remember to bring people across to your other platforms or your mailing list.

You’ll also find other conversations about specific interests and hobbies. They’ve even managed to do an audio only production of the Lion King over Christmas!

But what about those disadvantages? Well, again, it’s audio only so you need to spend time listening and ideally engaging.

Also, it’s not available to Android users yet. And it has to be you on the app. You will not be able to outsource content for this one!

Content on Clubhouse isn’t recorded either, so you won’t be able to listen again or hear a replay, but some would argue that’s also an advantage.

What’s the future of Clubhouse?

Currently we’re able to create clubs which people can follow and you’ll be notified when people start a room. Your club can obviously reflect your business search topics, so you can find particular people, topics and clubs of interest. Make sure you’re using those keywords in your profile as to what you’d like to be found for.

And then there’s monetisation. Currently people are adding Cash app, Venmo and PayPal to their profile in Clubhouse and creators have hinted at private membership groups that you can charge a fee for.

What do you need to do next?

Download that app and make sure it’s the social networking Clubhouse.

Save your username and then ask around if anyone has any free invites. Bear in mind that you also need to be in a contact on their phone.

Have a think about your username, just like Instagram… you’ve got to have your name and then a user name. On Clubhouse they ask for your legal name, but not everybody does this. Your username could be your name again or your business or the niche that you’re in.

In your clubhouse profile you can add optional clickable links to Twitter and Instagram so make sure your profiles on these platforms are up to date and consistent with your brand.

My advice is to find your contacts who are already there and test out some rooms with them and have a play at joining rooms.

Clubhouse is like Marmite… you’re either going to find you don’t have the time or space for it right now, or you’ll be completely addicted and find yourself joining rooms all hours of the day. – Rebecca

So what do we think?

Amazing rundown of Clubhouse by Rebecca there. So what do we think?

Personally we think that there is some potential here but we’re looking for some extra features before we jump right in.
